Itinerary

Istanbul – Jun 30 | 6p depart

Jun 30 | 6p We kick off the cruise from Istanbul (Constantinople) with the Marmara wine region just east of it in Eastern Thrace. We leave the Sea of Marmara to tour the Aegean Islands.

Lesbos – Jul 1 | 10a – 7p

Our first stop is the Island of Lesbos, whose wines were mentioned by Homer in 7,000 BC. In addition to their famous spirit, Ouzo, the local grape Chidiriotiko is important.

Kusadasi – Jul 2 | 8a – 6p

Next we sail to Kusadasi on the Eastern Aegean Coast of Turkey, facing the Greek Island of Samos. This region of Turkey is responsible for more than half the country’s wine production with Muscat (dry to sweet) and many international grapes.

Rhodes – Jul 3 | 8a – 6p

Then we’re off to Rhodes, the southernmost of the Aegean Islands of Greece. Here we find still and sparkling wines from the Athiri grape.

Chania – Jul 4 | 9a – 7p

The following day we arrive in Chania, the westernmost region of the Island of Crete. Here we find more indigenous grapes like Romeiko and Assyrtiko.

Santorini – Jul 5 | 8a – 11p

Then the star of the wine crown of the Aegean Islands, Santorini, were we find all styles of Assyrtiko whites plus international varieties and Vinsanto dessert wines.

Syros Island – Jul 6 | 8a – 9p

For our last Aegean Island we visit Syros and more indigenous grapes, Monemvasia and Mandilaria.

Athens – Jul 7 | 6a arrive

We end our island hopping at Piraeus, a suburb of Athens, and the Attika region, home of a large percentage of Greece’s infamous Retsina. From here the thirstiest of us might extend our trips to visit Northern Greece’s Macedonia region.
